“When I think of an Arthur Meyerson photo, the first thing that comes to mind is the palette he creates to intoxicate the viewer. The result being an immediate commection with the imagery. The colors, hue and tonality push the concepts of his captures- driving home their honesty. staying true to his subjects, be they landscapes or cowboys on the plains, they echo a quest for honesty and realism, rarely seen in photography today. One can feel the moment that Arthur clicks his shutter because he leaves you with a feeling for the moment. The fog lifting off a river or the dust stirred by the foofs of horses, one never questions his motives. They are true and sure, just like the person behind the lens.”

A Mexican Adventure (Watercolor)

October 29 - November 10th

Joye Moon

We had such a wonderful experience in the authentic colonial town of San Miguel, Mexico that we decided to go back! Join Dave and me for 2 weeks of fun in the warm climate and culturally rich region of Mexico.

We will begin the Adventure in San Miguel with all the festive Day of the Dead Celebrations. This is the only day when the cemeteries are open with families celebrating the lives of their loved ones who have passed away. They play music, erect alters and there are flowers and banners everywhere! We will visit authentic local artisans such as silversmiths, pottery makers and weavers. The Botanical Garden is also delightful to visit. Our hotel is a block away from the Jardin, the cities central square. [Great for enjoying the trick-or-treaters on Halloween night] The food and hospitality is the best! Our English speaking guide, Phil, is from the U.S. and tons of FUN and most knowledgeable.

Out second week will be a bit different. We will stay at an all-inclusive Hacienda in the country. You will have your own double occupancy room with ensuite bathrooms. There is a large heated swimming pool and a stable with a dozen horses at your disposal. The Hacienda has a staff of 18 and since we will be the only group staying there, we will be pampered beyond belief! Enjoy day trips from this location with Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner prepared for our group each day.

This week-long retreat is a unique opportunity for women from all creative backgrounds to gather for spiritual renewal, to connect with their physical well-being, and to celebrate their lives as artists. It is an ideal setting for artists who wish to recharge their energies and network. The retreat focuses on three major components: spiritual, physical, and creative. In daily discussions we examine issues of interest to creative women, including developing a career, finding or rediscovering one’s creative voice, and forging a personal style. We also look at business practices, marketing, exhibiting, and publishing. As we share our work and personal projects, we are nurtured by the beauty of our surroundings, healthy food, and music—a perfect recipe for inner renewal.

Our workshop coincides with the Day of the Dead religious observations in Mexico. In addition to joining the colorful local festivities during the week, participants build their own altars to offer personal remembrances and celebrations.

__ Our Traveling Watercolor Workshops are like no others! On our tours you will have the unique opportunity to focus completely on your art while we take care of the details and travel needs. We take pride in arranging comfortable accommodations so you can relax and concentrate on developing and strengthening your artistic skills. Tailored to the unique personality of each group, our two-week tours are arranged to maximize time for instruction and on-location plein air painting. These trips are best suited to independent travelers who want to indulge their creativity. Our frequent group discussions, chats among guests, and sharing of work each day, provide a delightful dimension to travel.

__ Journals are another unique aspect of our workshops. In addition to painting on scheduled excursions, journaling is encouraged and significant time is spent suggesting different formats and subjects. Keeping journals filled with drawings, paintings, writing and other memorabilia has been a favorite activity of past clients.

__

Beginners and professionals alike will find our workshops enlightening. Professional artist/teacher Jonelle Johnson instructs the carefully designed progression of sessions that deal with issues specific to watercolor, such as value, pigment application techniques and brushwork, as well as information and ideas about color and composition. Jonelle recognizes the need to develop personal expression and goals, and is considerate of individual levels of proficiency.

__ A typical day begins with a workshop, either at home or on location, which provides a focus for day’s painting. The workshop corresponds to the atmospheric conditions encountered that day. Often we’ll enjoy a gourmet picnic and then go on to explore a hilltown or other intriguing cultural or historic site. We gather at the end of the day with an aperitif while we discuss and share our work. You’ll be truly amazed at the great advances you make and at the volume of exciting work you produce!

Design and Composition Painter’s workshop With MARGOT SCHULZKY, author of newly released ‘A Painter’s Guide to Design and Composition’ Any medium welcom

Margot Schulzke, PSA, PSWC-DP; DPS, KA is a highly regarded and much sought-after teacher. Her approach is individualized, good-humored and supportive. Encouraging workshop participants to think and work independently, she emphasizes the “whys,” not just the “hows.” She keeps workshop sizes relatively small to allow as much one-on-one as possible with each student, encouraging them to identify and develop their own intuitive, natural style.

Workshop students comments: “All your positive feedback in your workshop the whole week was such a great experience. Your talk the last few hours on Friday on building confidence and how to carry on with painting when you’re not in a workshop was inspiring. It was a new experience, since I’ve been in classes where the teacher and class did nothing but tear the paintings to pieces. …You have made design much easier to understand.” …”It was everything I expected and more. … “The reality exceeded my rather myopic expectations. Your workshop embraced many levels of skill and experience — with the surprise bonus that the students functioned as integral parts of the didactic flow.”

She has taught painting for some forty years and holds a BA degree in art education. This solid foundation, coupled with her long experience in art instruction, is evident in her highly effective teaching methods.

Composition and design are a major focus in all of her workshops.

Learn “why you put what where” with the author of A Painter’s Guide to Design and Composition. Tuition fees cover instruction; travel and accommodations costs vary; please contact the workshop coordinator for full details.
